Research shows that people are the weakest link in cybersecurity. The human element is responsible for 90% of all cyber incidents.
The good news is that you can take steps to reduce your organization’s vulnerability to human error. Here are some key findings from recent research on the human element in cybersecurity:
- Cybersecurity training can help reduce the number of human-related incidents.
- Employee awareness of cybersecurity threats is critical to reducing the risk of cyber incidents.
- Organisations need to adopt a people-centric approach to security, which includes making security everyone’s responsibility
A people-centric approach to security starts with awareness and education. All employees must understand the importance of cybersecurity and their role in protecting the organisation. Cybersecurity training can help employees learn about best practices for keeping themselves and the organisation safe.
“The most important thing that organizations can do to improve their cybersecurity is to focus on the human element,” said Dr Jessica Barker, a cyberpsychologist and co-founder of Cygenta. “Organisations need to ensure that their employees are aware of the threats and have the knowledge and skills to protect themselves and the organisation.”
With so many frauds going on, Proofpoint’s cybersecurity company says that individuals and organizations must be more aware of such attacks and develop better cybersecurity protection from a people-centric viewpoint.
In 2021, third parties and suppliers will be the target of a cloud-based attack in 58% of organisations, according to a Cloud Security Alliance (CSA) and Proofpoint poll.
“Developing a culture of security throughout and around your company, with the use of several innovative solutions, is critical to effectively protect individuals against cloud and web dangers while also protecting organizational data,” says Patrick Peterson, Founder and Executive Chairman of Agari.
