The supposed ringleader of a global criminal enterprise that utilised the ANOM app has been apprehended and indicted in South Australia’s Yorke Peninsula.
He was originally from New South Wales. The man was chased and arrested after a joint operation between the police and the FBI.
He is accused of being the leader of a major criminal organisation involved in money laundering, drugs and firearms offences. He has been remanded in custody and will appear in court tomorrow.
This individual was wanted in connection with several serious crimes. He has been charged with 29 counts of trafficking controlled drugs, including methamphetamine, ecstasy, cannabis, and cocaine, and 17 counts of money laundering. The suspect will now face justice for his crimes. It is a significant victory in the fight against organised crime. Thanks to the hard work of the law enforcement partners, we have brought this individual to justice.
The suspect was tracked and arrested through the ANOM app. Law enforcement agencies developed the app to assist the large policing operation dubbed Ironside. Detectives followed the 47-year-old man back to the Yorke Peninsula and arrested him at 4:50 pm under a warrant.
“The man was linked to kilograms of cocaine, thousands of ecstasy tablets, and cannabis valued at millions of dollars,” reported the Taskforce Ironside senior investigating officer Darren Fielke.
The FBI also investigates him under the Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organisations (RICO) Act designed to combat organised crime in the United States.
Detective Chief Inspector Fielke said, “He’s a high-level organised crime player.” He further added, “He’s a significant arrest for organised crime in South Australia and, for that matter, Australia. His syndicate was a heavy user of the ANOM encrypted communications platform and was used to facilitate his illegitimate business.”
The suspect was remanded in custody after facing the Adelaide Magistrates Court. The investigation is going on, and more criminals associated with this will be arrested soon. All this will ensure high-profile law and order maintenance in Australia.
