Huntress has started its operations in Australia and New Zealand, focusing on providing services through the Managed Services Provider (MSP) channel to small-to-medium businesses (SMBs).
Huntress, a company founded by former NSA cyber operators and supported by ThreatOps researchers, enables Managed Service Providers (MSPs) to utilise managed Endpoint Detection and Response (EDR) solutions.
The Huntress ANZ team, led by Regional Director Reece Appleton (formerly of Datto), has invested in on-shore threat hunting and product support personnel.
According to the Australian Cyber Security Centre (ACSC), small and medium-sized businesses (SMBs) in Australia face cybersecurity threats. Reportedly, 43% of cybercrime in Australia is aimed at SMBs. Attackers may target these businesses because they are considered under-protected and might resist implementing cybersecurity measures.
MSPs, who serve many SMBs, struggle to deploy and manage security solutions designed for larger enterprises due to challenges such as high costs and excessive noise. Though they are technological leaders, MSPs often need more expertise to manage EDRs effectively and may need more resources to outsource to a SOC or MDR product.
Additionally, human security analysts are critical, but MSPs may need more time or capacity to dedicate to this role.
In 2021, Huntress identified and spearheaded the response to the VSA supply chain attack on Kaseya. They have also significantly addressed other incidents, including exploiting SolarWinds Orion’s supply chain, discovering zero-day vulnerabilities in Microsoft Exchange, and the recent 3CX exploit.
“Huntress is a prominent member of the MSP community. This is due, in part, to our role in major incidents like the Kaseya VSA and Solarwinds Orion attacks. Our founders genuinely care about the MSP community, and this commitment is reflected in our organisation. We aim to contribute to the community by providing thought leadership and support,” Appleton comments.
“We are investing in local cybersecurity experts in ANZ to provide our expertise and support to MSPs and their customers, focusing on expanding our ThreatOps, product support, and sales engineering teams,” Appleton added.
With decades of experience in MSP and cybersecurity, Huntress deeply understands the local market. We acknowledge that MSPs need a partner rather than just a vendor and are therefore investing in cybersecurity education and partner enablement.
As partners aim to educate their customers and provide solutions that align with frameworks like the Essential Eight and NIST, the company will be working towards developing the appropriate pathway.
Huntress is excited to announce that they will increase their security and defence services in the ANZ region. Reece and his team are fully equipped to help MSPs protect over three million SMBs, essential to the region’s economy.
