Grand Theft Auto 5 (GTA 5) PC players have been having a tough time lately due to the emergence of new exploits.
The hackers target random players, often without warning or prior knowledge, by hijacking their accounts and manipulating the game character’s appearance and behaviour in a way that leads to an automatic ban.
Though it did not last long, Tez2 retweeted Speyedr’s firewall post from December 2022 and advised utilising the application.
Recently, Speyedr noted that the “firewall didn’t ensure security before taking some of the software’s code down from GitHub and warning that gamers who misconfigured the program would lose access to their PC files or accounts.”
“In an attempt to dissuade users from going online with a method of Guardian that wouldn’t protect them, I am temporarily hiding access to builds,” Speyedr said, “This exploit is so serious that one wrong setting or action could result in the loss of your account or even your PC files.”
The information was provided by a Twitter user and Rockstar news account Tez1, who claims to have received information from a follower who said that PC users had their accounts in the online game hijacked due to a new exploit.
According to reports, the exploit enables hackers to modify player characters, add and remove stats, and even completely ban or erase accounts.
The hacking issue started in December. However, creator Rockstar Games needs to recognise the issue, causing its tweet about a Lunar New Year event in the game to be inundated with angry fan reactions.
Following up, Speyedr advised gamers to take a break until the exploit’s most harmful features were patched. However, access to the software would be restored once those issues were resolved.
While this new exploit poses a severe risk to Grand Theft Auto V players, the developers are taking steps to protect their player base.
