Kaspersky warns of more potential banking malware attacks on Android and iOS devices.
Kaspersky, a global cybersecurity company, has noted an increase adaptation of mobile banking throughout the Asia Pacific(APAC). In response to this trend, Kaspersky warns its users of more potential attacks on Android and iOS devices.
Right now, active monitoring shows that the Anubis Trojan is delivering a combination of mobile banking and ransomware capabilities to its target smartphones.
Mobile banking Trojans are among the most dangerous species in the malware world. This threat robs mobile users’ bank accounts by creating an authentic-looking app to lure people into installing and releasing malware.
According to Kaspersky’s most recent mobile numbers in the second quarter of 2022, this malware family is still one of the most prevalent mobile bankers. One in 10 (10.48%) of Kaspersky’s unique global users who encountered a banking threat also discovered Anubis mobile banking Trojan during this period.
“With the mobile banking boom in the Asia Pacific, we are seeing a trend where cybercriminals are increasingly targeting this region,” said Denis Maslennikov, a security expert at Kaspersky. “We urge users to be vigilant regarding their banking activities on mobile devices and only to install apps from trusted sources.”
Kaspersky has the following advice for users:
- Beware of fake mobile apps, even if they look like the real deal. Check that the developer’s name is correct and that the app has good reviews before downloading.
- Do not download apps from third-party stores; only get them from official app stores.
- Keep your security solution updated to protect your device from the latest mobile threats.
“With more than half (63%) of digital payments in APAC made on mobile devices, awareness is no longer enough. Everyone should be taking this precautionary step by now.”
If you do online banking using your smartphone, check that your apps and devices are up-to-date with the latest security patches. Use a reliable security solution, such as Kaspersky Internet Security, to help protect you against mobile banking threats.
